My show is just starting, under 100 listens an episode.

A show that is just starting earns first through tips: listeners give a one-off or small recurring thank-you through a page like Buy Me a Coffee or Ko-fi, with no reach requirement and nothing to sell. Grow first, and earn a little on the side while you do; memberships unlock once a core of listeners would pay for more of you, and ad marketplaces look for roughly 1,000 downloads an episode.

Default pick

Buy Me a Coffee

A quick way for listeners to send a one-off tip or small membership.

5% platform fee; Ko-fi takes 0% on tips if the fee matters more than familiarity.

I have a real audience, hundreds of listens an episode.

A show with a devoted core earns best through memberships: your own listeners pay monthly for bonus episodes, ad-free audio, early access, or a community, through a platform like Patreon or a private premium feed like Supercast. It rewards devotion over size. If you have nothing extra to offer yet, keep the tip jar open and build something worth paying for first.

Default pick

Patreon

The default place to offer paid tiers and perks to your fans.

10% platform fee; podcast-native private feeds are Supercast's specialty, not Patreon's.

Thousands hear every episode, and I can prove it.

A show past roughly 1,000 downloads an episode clears the advertising bar: join an ad marketplace like Libsyn Ads or a platform program, prove your downloads, and let advertisers pay to reach the audience you built. Memberships layer recurring income on top; tips still work but are the smallest lever at this size.

Default pick

Libsyn Ads

A CPM marketplace with real ad inventory, formerly AdvertiseCast.

Roughly a 30% cut of ad sales; the marketplace finds the advertiser, so you trade margin for the match.

I run several shows, or one with a deep back catalog.

At network scale you own the ad stack instead of renting one: enterprise infrastructure like Megaphone or ART19 sells your inventory direct, inserts ads dynamically across the back catalog, and keeps the margin a marketplace would take. This is running an advertising business, not joining one.

Default pick

Megaphone

Enterprise hosting with dynamic ad insertion and the Spotify Audience Network, built to sell your inventory at scale.

Enterprise pricing from around $99 a month, full monetization by custom quote; overkill below network scale.
