Extrasensory: The Milkman’s Prophecy – A True Mystery Unveiled
Extensive review of Extrasensory: The Milkman's Profecy, a hair-raising show that delves into reincarnation and the mystic dance of belief
Published on December 16, 2024
Narrated by the brilliant Will Sharpe of The White Lotus, this eight-part podcast series brings to life a peculiar true story of John Pollock, an English milkman from the 1950s whose unyielding beliefs in reincarnation created ripples in his household and beyond.
What is Extrasensory: The Milkman's Profecy about?
The story starts with a tragedy too terrible to speak of: in 1957, two of John Pollock's young daughters, Joanna (11) and Jacqueline (6), and their friend, were struck and killed by a car while walking to church in Hexham, Northumberland.
Most would expect a father to be consumed by grief, but Pollock’s response was anything but ordinary.
Instead of mourning, he made a startling proclamation on the day of the accident: his daughters would be reborn.
True to his prophecy, Pollock’s wife Florence gave birth to twin daughters, Gillian and Jennifer, the following year. But these weren’t just any twins.
Pollock became convinced that his daughters were Joanna and Jacqueline reincarnated. He became sure his prophecy was real when he found uncanny similarities: birthmarks that matched and macabre behavioral traits that really did send shivers.
As the twins grew older, they began exhibiting recollections of things they could not have known, from identifying toys their sisters had played with years earlier to recognizing sights and places they had never been taken to.
Their fear of automobiles further deepened the mystery. Was this the proof Pollock had been waiting for?
This haunted belief soon caught the attention of the world, and of Dr. Ian Stevenson, a psychiatrist from the University of Virginia who studied reincarnation.
Over two decades, Stevenson visited the Pollocks, documenting their story in his groundbreaking book "Children Who Remember Previous Lives".
But the family secrets were deeper than anyone suspected. In fact, as Extrasensory unravels, we find the grandkids of the Pollocks, some oblivious of even their own family history, holding clues to a mystery that refuses to mellow with time.
Why You'll Be Hooked
Narrated with skepticism and wit by Will Sharpe, Extrasensory is more than a spooky tale. It explores faith, memory, and supernatural events, by showing how beliefs can shape (and sometimes fracture) a family.
The series tracks down neighbors, relatives, and experts who help us understand the events surrounding the twins, while uncovering truths that are hard to believe, and as shocking as they are heart-wrenching.
Equipped with a script skeptical and inquisitive in just the right proportions, Sharpe's narration imbues this already very chilling true story with an irresistible edge.
At the core of Extrasensory, it's a family saga-it's about how the strange story of the Pollocks rippled throughout generations, leaving behind unanswered questions, strained relationships, and a legacy of belief quite impossible to ignore.
Why did Pollock's son vow never to speak of what happened? Why did one of the twins suddenly distance herself from her "past life" memories as she grew older?
And most intriguingly, what led one of Pollock's grandchildren-completely unaware of her family's history-to contribute to this podcast and confront her legacy for the first time?
It's a series that builds to a stunning conclusion, forcing the listeners to question everything they know about life, death, and memory.
I don't want to give away too much, but let me say this: Extrasensory is as much the story of Pollock and his living and dead daughters; it's about the ghosts of our past as it is about those we carry within us.
